Artrocker- Field Day interviews

http://www.artrocker.tv/features/article/field-day-interviews-is-tropical-chapel-club-caribou

This weekend Victoria Park in London will once again be hosting a different music festival on each day. How does it possibly cope? Our concerns aside, Artrocker.TV has been talking to a few of the bands from Field Day to figure out what they've got in store for us...

INTERVIEW 1: IS TROPICAL

What bands are you going to be checking out at this year's festival?

Carte Blanche!! Phoenix, Atlas Sounds, Caribou, Fake Blood, Gold Panda, Hudson Mohawke, These New Puritans, Factory Floor, No Age. Also our friends Babeshadow, Egyptian Hip Hop and Yuc, So we will be real busy, we might forget to play ourselves.

Have you been to Field Day before?

The last 2 years. Mystery Jets and The Big Pink smashed it last year. Other highlights were seeing Matthew Dear play the year before and Vetiver ridiculously played that tiny stage made of hay bales.

Do you have anything special planned for your performance?

A few new songs to play, which feels good. You want to know how people will react to them, you never can predict which ones people will get. The usual strobe lights, falling over, cutting ourselves by accident. We're also going to stop the set halfway through and have a candlelit vigil for Cheryl Cole's malaria. Not really.

What makes Field Day different from any other festival?

Living in London you know that everyone will be there. It wraps up the summer feeling. It shuts early but there are always some crazy after parties.

INTERVIEW 2: CARIBOU

What bands are you going to be checking out at this year's festival?

Silver Apples - I've always been a fan of theirs and never thought I would get to see them live. I have a lot of friends playing at the festival!

Do you have anything special planned for your performance?

We do actually but nothing I can disclose over the phone. We haven’t played a big show in London before so very much looking forward to that.

NTERVIEW 3: CHAPEL CLUB

What bands are you going to be checking out at this year's festival?

There're loads I'd like to see: Caribou, Phoenix, No Age, The Golden Filter, Atlas Sound... the list runs ever on. It's a great line-up.

Have you been to Field Day before?

Nope, despite the fact that I live about two minutes away. I walked around the outside the first year it was on, and thought it looked like fun. But I've always been away or too poor to buy a ticket.

Do you have anything special planned for your performance?

I wanted to bring my dog onstage, seeing as how Victoria Park is his territory and he knows it better than anyone. But I think that would freak security out. It would probably freak my dog out, too.

What makes Field Day different from any other festival?

Well, like I said, I haven't been before. So I'm not entirely sure. But as a Londoner, it's good to see some great London club promoters getting involved - Adventures in the Beetroot Field, Bugged Out! etc. I used to go to their nights and wish I was performing, so it's nice that now we get the chance. Plus there's a big after-party isn't there? That should be fun.

Who are you going to be checking out at this years festival?

I have wanted to see No Age for a long time so will try and catch them. Max Tundra is always excellent too.

INTERVIEW 4-ARCHIE BRONSON OUTFIT

Who are you going to be checking out at this years festival?

I have wanted to see No Age for a long time so will try and catch them. Max Tundra is always excellent too.

Have you been to Field Day before?
We played there in 2006. It was good but we had to fight with the sound men to get to play at a decent volume. They cut us off early as we were making too much noise, messing with some ambient baloney on a nearby stage.

Do you have anything special planned for your performance?
No. Just our normal schtick.

What makes Field Day different from any other festival?
It has got coconut shys.
