Artrocker- Field Day interviews

http://www.artrocker.tv/features/article/field-day-interviews-is-tropical-chapel-club-caribou

This weekend Victoria Park in London will once again be hosting a different music festival on each day. How does it possibly cope? Our concerns aside, Artrocker.TV has been talking to a few of the bands from Field Day to figure out what they've got in store for us...

INTERVIEW 1: IS TROPICAL

What bands are you going to be checking out at this year's festival?

Carte Blanche!! Phoenix, Atlas Sounds, Caribou, Fake Blood, Gold Panda, Hudson Mohawke, These New Puritans, Factory Floor, No Age. Also our friends Babeshadow, Egyptian Hip Hop and Yuc, So we will be real busy, we might forget to play ourselves.

Have you been to Field Day before?

The last 2 years. Mystery Jets and The Big Pink smashed it last year. Other highlights were seeing Matthew Dear play the year before and Vetiver ridiculously played that tiny stage made of hay bales.

Do you have anything special planned for your performance?

A few new songs to play, which feels good. You want to know how people will react to them, you never can predict which ones people will get. The usual strobe lights, falling over, cutting ourselves by accident. We're also going to stop the set halfway through and have a candlelit vigil for Cheryl Cole's malaria. Not really.

What makes Field Day different from any other festival?

Living in London you know that everyone will be there. It wraps up the summer feeling. It shuts early but there are always some crazy after parties.

INTERVIEW 2: CARIBOU

What bands are you going to be checking out at this year's festival?

Silver Apples - I've always been a fan of theirs and never thought I would get to see them live. I have a lot of friends playing at the festival!

Do you have anything special planned for your performance?

We do actually but nothing I can disclose over the phone. We haven’t played a big show in London before so very much looking forward to that.

NTERVIEW 3: CHAPEL CLUB

What bands are you going to be checking out at this year's festival?

There're loads I'd like to see: Caribou, Phoenix, No Age, The Golden Filter, Atlas Sound... the list runs ever on. It's a great line-up.

Have you been to Field Day before?

Nope, despite the fact that I live about two minutes away. I walked around the outside the first year it was on, and thought it looked like fun. But I've always been away or too poor to buy a ticket.

Do you have anything special planned for your performance?

I wanted to bring my dog onstage, seeing as how Victoria Park is his territory and he knows it better than anyone. But I think that would freak security out. It would probably freak my dog out, too.

What makes Field Day different from any other festival?

Well, like I said, I haven't been before. So I'm not entirely sure. But as a Londoner, it's good to see some great London club promoters getting involved - Adventures in the Beetroot Field, Bugged Out! etc. I used to go to their nights and wish I was performing, so it's nice that now we get the chance. Plus there's a big after-party isn't there? That should be fun.

Who are you going to be checking out at this years festival?

I have wanted to see No Age for a long time so will try and catch them. Max Tundra is always excellent too.

INTERVIEW 4-ARCHIE BRONSON OUTFIT

Who are you going to be checking out at this years festival?

I have wanted to see No Age for a long time so will try and catch them. Max Tundra is always excellent too.

Have you been to Field Day before?
We played there in 2006. It was good but we had to fight with the sound men to get to play at a decent volume. They cut us off early as we were making too much noise, messing with some ambient baloney on a nearby stage.

Do you have anything special planned for your performance?
No. Just our normal schtick.

What makes Field Day different from any other festival?
It has got coconut shys.

Band Alert- Harlem

Who Is Harlem?
Curtis jose and coomers

You are very busy this summer, what are you looking forward to most?
Vernal equinox

Some of us miss you over here, when will you be coming back?
Where are you? we'll come back. We miss you too whoever you are.

What makes you different to any other band coming out of Austin?
We are way different. We are a couple of dudes who play guitar, work food service jobs, smoke grass, and like traveling.

How would you rate yourself over in the USA?
Sober 6 drunk 7

What are your biggest highlights in your career so far and what are the bands future ambitions?
Getting up onstage to play with john paul jones at the grand ole opry was definitely the best moment of our musical lives. Having my first child was a personal highlight.

Tell us more about your music and any new releases? We don't have any new releases for a little while. Verse chorus, verse, bridge, chorus, end.

Three is an old number, is there any major falling outs?
Curtis is the third leg in jose and coomers love affair

I see you have a lot of support dogs on MySpace?
They're not support dogs they are real dogs that we are friends with

Artrocker- Savoir Adore interview

http://www.artrocker.tv/features/article/new-york-city-pop-savoir-adore-talk-brooklyn

What does Savoir Adore mean?

It's a French phrase which isn't exactly gramatically correct - but what it roughly means is 'what to love' or 'how to love'. As cheesy as it sounds we were talking about the beauty of the French language and we thought: what’s important? This name quickly popped up!

Are you two romantically involved?

(laughs) No - we're pretty much best friends. Deidre dates one of my friends Dave, he’s the drummer out of French Horn Rebellion. I play for French Horn Rebellion sometimes; we are a tight unit of friends.

Is Brooklyn the place to be in New York to find music?

New York attracts a lot of artists but Brooklyn is just affordable - there are a lot more venues popping out and it’s affordable compared to Manhattan. Brooklyn is a hot bed for opportunity at the moment for bands starting up and a lot of them
move there, like East London over here.

What's the source of your inspiration?

It’s sort of our friendship as the material - us just having fun, who we are as people and finally working together. We have very different musically tastes and it all about trying new things, as you can see by our music.

Who is the biggest celebrity you have on your mobile phone?

(laughs) It's cheesy I know but It would be my dad, he is a jazz musician. He is a well known keyboardist and has played with the likes of Jeff Beck.

Band Alert- IC1's

Who are IC1s?

Dan: The name is police jargon for white European, but my brother-in-law was a jungle MC called 'IC1' so in true Coburn tradition... I stole it. Now its a 5 piece rock and roll band from London.

How is your sound different to any other band out there?

Dan: Well for starters its not shit. The radio these days seems filled with mediocre bands that wouldn't be out of place playing at a school fete. Most of the time I have to turn the radio off before I smash it up. We deserve our place on the radio, if only to keep radios in tact.

Ok...I hear there have been some changes to IC1 care to share?

Jesse: I had always been a fan of the band and thought there was something missing from their sound. Two members left the band and me and another mate of ours stepped in and now the sound is complete... completely brilliant.

What's in store for you guys this year?

Jesse: We have some great gigs lined up for the next couple of months. We are playing the Barfly in Camden on the 5th of August with Charley Coombes and The New Breed (previously of Supergrass). With a few smaller gigs in between we then play JAMM in Brixton with Proud Mary for their new album launch on the 4th of September. We have got the backing of Left & Right Records so we are looking at playing bigger venues and festivals by this time next year.

Are there any bands in particular that are taking your fancy at the moment?

Dan: I am really into this band called IC1s, boy is their lead singer good looking. Bands at the moment aren't really doing it for me, I still wake up in the morning and throw on The Beatles. I don't need any other band apart from us and them.

Who's the brains behind IC1 and who writes the lyrics?

Dan: For the want of a better word. I am seen as the leader, I have written all of the music and lyrics so far. That's not to say the door isn't open for the rest to bring in songs... it just hasn't really happened yet. I think people get writers block around me.

What are IC1s dream goals for the future?

Jesse: To play at our respective school fetes. Like a mini tour. Sports day isn't ready for us just yet.

Dan: To obviously become the best band in the world, we already are, we just need everyone else to realise that.

Ali Love is please to be releasing his forthcoming single via free download. Grab it here for free, along with a brand new Bottin remix. Ali Love has already tossed two very potent musical grenades into the pop battlefield with his tastemaker singles "Diminishing Returns" and "Love Harder" last year - glittering, diamond-cut gems of dark disco pop streaked with sex and glamour. For his new single "Smoke and Mirrors" is quite possibly the most infectious, most accomplished track he has to date, and signals the long overdue arrival of a major new star in the pop firmament. Ali Love releases his anticipated debut album "Love Harder", in August 2010.

The Beautiful Word

The Beautiful Word is another gifted five to come straight out of Brighton who use simplicity and imagination well. Their tracks are fully open leaving no hidden secrets lurking around the corner and this allows them to divulge out in full blown harmonies. Various lyrics being cruel and raw are cleverly covered up with the tender flicks of the guitars with the soft tone vocals which it seems has really managed to push the troubled past away.
Mystery Pop is an easy listening EP which is out now just in time for the looming summer. If you are a fan of folk and poppy twists, this is made for you. It’s very happy go lucky and it shouldn’t be taken so seriously. They have a creative side which works really well as a whole and is definitely worth a listen or two.
